Welcome to Friendship Cup 2026

It’s that time of the year again — Friendship Cup time!
Following last year’s attempted coup by some Rebels, which nearly resulted in a split within the Saturday School, the Friendship Cup is back in all its glory! The trophy has been recovered, and the result is a bigger, stronger and more united Saturday School at CCC.

The STINGERS !

With great pride and enthusiasm, the STINGERS warmly welcome our friends from all our neighbouring clubs to another edition of this fantastic tournament.

To bring our newer members up to speed with the history and traditions of the Friendship Cup, Tournament Management has unanimously decided that this year’s battle will be between THE LEGENDS and THE NEW BLOODS, with 14 players per side.

Teams and Captains
• THE LEGENDS: Dudley Wise
• THE NEW BLOODS: Kevin Heunis

Tournament Format
The tournament will take place on Friday, 6 November, and Saturday, 7 November 2026, and will consist of three matches:
• Friday morning: Foursomes Match Play (7x Points)
• Friday afternoon: Betterball Match Play (7x Points)
• Saturday: Singles Match Play (14x Points)

A total of 28 points will be up for grabs, with one point awarded for a match won and half a point for a halved match. The first team to reach 14½ points will claim the honours and the coveted Friendship Cup!

The Friendship Cup has been around for many years, and the spirit in which these matches are played is a true reflection of its name. While the competition on the course can be fierce, the camaraderie, sportsmanship and friendships forged along the way are what make this event so special.

So, dust off those clubs, rally your teammates and prepare for a weekend of great golf, friendly rivalry and unforgettable memories.
May the best team win — and may the spirit of friendship always prevail!
Long live the Friendship Cup!

Be a lekka oke.

Rules & Conditions

1. Rules of Golf

The R&A Rules of Golf will apply throughout the tournament. All matches will be played in Match Play format in accordance with Rule 3.2.

2. Teeing Areas

Players may select their appropriate teeing area, taking their individual handicaps and the applicable Course Handicap for the chosen tees into account.

3. Foursomes Match Play

In Foursomes Match Play, the handicap allowance will be **50% of the difference between the combined Course Handicaps of the two sides**. The side with the lower combined Course Handicap will play off scratch, while the higher-handicapped side will receive the difference.

**Example: 100% Course Handicap allowance**

| Side | Player Handicaps | Combined Handicap |

| Team AB | Player A (16) + Player B (12) | 28 |
| Team CD | Player C (6) + Player D (11) | 17 |

Difference: 28 - 17 = 11

Handicap allowance: 11 × 50% = 5.5 strokes, rounded to 6 strokes.

**Competition Handicaps:**
- Team AB: 6 strokes
- Team CD: 0 strokes

4. Betterball Match Play

In Betterball Match Play, each player`s Playing Handicap will be calculated using a **90% handicap allowance**. The player with the lowest Playing Handicap will play off scratch, and all other players will receive the difference between their adjusted Playing Handicap and that of the lowest-handicapped player.

**Example: 90% handicap allowance applied**

| Player | Handicap | Playing Handicap (90%) | Competition Handicap |

| Player A | 5 | 5 | 0 |
| Player B | 19 | 17 | 12 |
| Player C | 12 | 11 | 6 |
| Player D | 15 | 14 | 9 |

*Note: Playing Handicaps are rounded to whole numbers in accordance with the applicable handicap calculation procedures.*

5. Singles Match Play

In Singles Match Play, **100% of the difference between the players` Course Handicaps** will apply. The player with the lower Course Handicap will play off scratch, and the opponent will receive the full difference.

**Example:**

| Player | Course Handicap | Competition Handicap |

| Player A | 5 | 0 |
| Player B | 18 | 13 |

6. Match Results & Scoring

As this is a Match Play tournament, players must agree on the result of each hole before making a stroke on the next teeing area.

Points will be awarded as follows:

- **Win:** 1 point
- **Halved match:** ½ point per team

A total of 28 points will be available across the tournament, with the first team to reach 14 1/2 points declared the winner.

7. Rain Delays & Incomplete Matches

In the event of rain delays or other circumstances preventing the completion of a match, the following provisions will apply:

- A minimum of **9 holes must be completed** for a match to produce an official result.
- Once nine holes have been completed, the match result will be determined by the state of the match when play is suspended, provided the match has not already concluded.
- For the tournament to produce an overall result, more than 50% of all scheduled matches must have an official result.
- If the tournament ends in an overall tie, the **Friendship Cup will be shared** between the two teams.
